What is a “Rethinker”?
What is a “Rethinker? A rethinker is one who questions, doubts (as far as possible), all things. A rethinker seeks questions, not answers, as the path to truth. A rethinker does not blindly follow authority, no matter how firmly established. Hence, a rethinker.

| Once, I was a believer. As a born-into believer, I had no other choice. Many years, decades, would pass before I came to the realization: I don't have to believe...in anything. For many it seems to be a requirement of human nature to BELIEVE...in something. To believe is to stand for something and to have something upon which to stand. For those, it is the foundation for living life. Not to believe is to be lost, to have nothing for which to live and stand. It is to build on... Read more |

| Being a rethinker does not come naturally. One becomes a rethinker usually from catalysts of circumstances, sets of experiences, or deep disillusionment. And the rethinker views disillusionment as a positive experience. Most people think of disillusionment with angst. A rethinker does not blindly follow authority, no matter how firmly extablished. A rethinker is at heart, and in the mind, a rebel - even a revolutionary. A ... Read more |

| At the beginning of my re-thinking, I wrote a final letter to the God that I had been taught to believe since childhood. It was my last conversation with this God. Dear God, It's June 7, 2007, and in a few days I will be 54 years old. During much of those 54 years, God, you have been on my mind. But usually I've not been honest with you. I've played a game I was taught from an early age and seemed never to get away from it. The gamne is generally called RELIGION and... Read more |

| Leaving a Belief | |
| Posted Feb 16th, 2010 by Rethinker | |
| What does it take to leave a belief? Recently I read a website post by a believer (in this case, a Christian believer) who was criticizing the lack of belief by exChristians. This believer could not understand how anyone could go through life without believing something. Once I was a believer, as well. And I well understand the difficulty in walking away from what may be the foundation upon which one's view of the world rests. The security in the neatness of doctrin... Read more |
