What is a “Rethinker”?
What is a “Rethinker? A rethinker is one who questions, doubts (as far as possible), all things. A rethinker seeks questions, not answers, as the path to truth. A rethinker does not blindly follow authority, no matter how firmly established. Hence, a rethinker.

| What does it take to leave a belief? Recently I read a website post by a believer (in this case, a Christian believer) who was criticizing the lack of belief by exChristians. This believer could not understand how anyone could go through life without believing something. Once I was a believer, as well. And I well understand the difficulty in walking away from what may be the foundation upon which one's view of the world rests. The security in the neatness of doctrine and dogma can provide a shield against another possible reality. But at some point I came to the realization: Belief does not equal Truth. Rethinker Cafe is open to those who are in the process of re-thinking or leaving long-held beliefs. Some may find that they no more use the term, "I believe...", but say, "I think..." What I have found in this simple conversion is a new-found freedom. No longer do beliefs bind me to a "reality" that may not be real. As someone once said, "I would not die for my beliefs, because I may be wrong." Leaving a belief is not easy; neither is breaking free from prison or slavery. But the sweet taste of freedom is worth the effort. |
